There are a few components of EBMC’s structure that are helpful for teachers to understand. If you have questions that aren’t addressed here, please email programs@eastbaymeditation.org
Daylongs, half-days and class series
Daylongs and class series are curated and cultivated by the EBMC Program Committee. These are the events that get publicized on the EBMC web site and to the EBMC general mailing list. Some of these events are generated based on events initiated and proposed by teachers (to propose an event, please visit the Proposal page). Some of these events are specifically initiated by the EBMC Program Committee. All teachers of these events must complete a Teacher Application and a Teacher Agreement. If this is the type of event you are teaching, your main contact will be with representatives of the EBMC Program Committee.
Weekly practice groups
EBMC’s weekly practice groups, in many ways the heart of the sangha, function a bit differently from other events. Each group is led by its own committee of sangha members and teachers from that sangha, and it is these committees that do the programming and scheduling of teachers for their respective groups. Each group has its own process for selecting teachers, and only teachers who are part of the communities that the groups are identified with teach those groups. In other words, only LGBTQIA+-identified teachers teach the Alphabet Sangha, only POC-identified teachers teach the POC sangha, and only disabled or chronically ill teachers teach the Every Body Every Mind Sangha.
If you wish to apply to teach at one of EBMC’s weekly practice groups, please complete a Teacher Application and a Teacher Agreement, then email the program committee to indicate which group you are interested in. We will put you in touch with the committees for those groups.
Other types of events
The EBMC Teen Sangha, Family Sangha and Recovery Sangha are examples of events that are slightly different than the above mentioned types of events. Please complete a Teacher Application and a Teacher Agreement, then email the program committee to indicate your interest in teaching one of these.
Teacher Sangha
All current EBMC teachers are requested to attend quarterly meetings of the EBMC Teacher Sangha. These meetings are meant to support teachers by discussing issues that arise in the sangha, in teaching, and by building a sense of community among EBMC teachers. Once you start teaching, you will be added to the invitation list for these meetings. If you have questions about these quarterly meetings, please email the Program Committee at programs@eastbaymeditation.org
